NHS Scotland includes Indian Mastek in latest award

(By Anthony Miller – Monday 23rd Feb ’09 8:15am). It’s a relatively small amount to be shared among a relatively large number of players, but National Services Scotland (i.e. their NHS) has recently awarded a £5m software development and support framework agreement to ten suppliers, including India SI, Mastek, and French SI, Sopra. I’d guess that the Sopra connection is through Newell & Budge, the Scotland-based IT services firm the French SI acquired back in 2005 (and see Sopra suffers in the UK) but Mastek – as far as I know – has no Scottish roots. However, Mastek is also one of BT’s subcontractors on the NHS Spine programme and has been Capita’s offshore application development partner since 1995. Mastek is tiny compared to the ‘usual suspect’ Indian SIs, with annual revenues around $230m. However, over 60% of Mastek’s revenues derive from the UK. Just another example to show that the UK public sector is not closed to offshore players if they can learn how to dance in step with the political music.
