I must confess to a personal interest in the FT article (see here) regarding the increasingly acrimonious dispute between Dublin-based Internet casino and gaming software firm CryptoLogic, and its ex-CEO, Javaid Aziz. Some may remember that Javaid was at one point CEO of IBM UK, later moving on to become Senior VP at Silicon Graphics Europe. He later founded ASP start-up Aspective before joining CryptoLogic as CEO in April 2007.Well, would you believe that Javaid and I both joined IBM UK as raw recruits on the very same day – Monday 3rd September, 1973 – in the very same branch – London South Manufacturing – in what was then IBM’s Croydon office opposite East Croydon station. Our paths have crossed very few times since I left IBM but often enough for me to note that he kept his hair while I didn’t. I guess we each choose our paths in life, Javaid climbing to lofty heights in global IT and me as an industry analyst. OK, I may not get paid as much (hint, hint – you know how to subscribe to our services) but there again I truly hope Javaid is as happy with his lot in life as I am with mine!
