Carphone Warehouse buys Tiscali - Farnham holds its breath

(By Anthony Miller – Sunday 9th May 2009 6:00pm). Milan-listed ‘alternative’ telecoms player, Tiscali, is to sell its troubled UK business to Carphone Warehouse for £236m. This will lift CPW from third to Britain’s second largest broadband provider behind BT, and the largest for consumer broadband.

My learned colleague has written many times about Tiscali (most recently in Troubles deepen at Tiscali) on account of the fact that they supply his broadband service in rural Farnham, seemingly through two tin cans and a piece of string. When he returns from his current trip, I have no doubt Richard will comment more, assuming of course he still has some sort of internet connection!
