(By Anthony Miller – Tuesday 12th May 2009 8:00am). Mainly (90%) UK and international public sector support services player, Serco’s IMS (see here), very much supported bullish statements in its prelims in February (see Serco – hostage to fortune or right place, right time?), advising it’s “on track” to make the 2009 numbers. Among the billion-pound’s worth of contracts signed so far this year (and another £250m as preferred bidder) was a £250m/10 year JV with Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust for pathology services. At the time (Jan.), Serco heralded this deal as the first of its kind with the NHS, but surely Xansa’s (now Steria’s) JV, NHS Shared Business Services, took that honour five years ago? Anyway, the point is that despite the travesty that the NPfIT appears to be descending in to, the UK healthcare market is still spending big on IT, as vendors large (such as Serco) and small (such as System C, ACS) are finding.
