EDS scoops $1bn IT outsourcing deal at Aviva

(By Anthony Miller – Tuesday, 3rd March 2009 8:00am). EDS (and lest we forget, an HP company!), has beaten IBM to a $1bn 10-year IT outsourcing deal at UK insurer, Aviva. This is the second $1bn deal awarded by Aviva in under 12 months – they sold their Indian BPO captive to India-based WNS back in July last year (see WNS wins mega 8 year $1b BPO contract with Aviva). I spoke to EDS EMEA head, Bill Thomas, this morning and he was well chuffed, this being a major data centre win in the Financial Services sector against their number one archrival. I guess it also gets HP’s foot firmly in the door at Aviva, and who knows where that may lead! Great win – and proves that EDS did not get distracted from the business at hand while the HP acquisition was in train. IBM must be feeling really sick!
