Aveva expects 30%+ licence revenue fall

(By Anthony Miller – Thursday, 16th April 2009 8:15am). Although its year-end trading update brought good news for the year just closed (see here), CAD-CAM software group Aveva (nee Cadcentre)warned that revenues from initial licence fees will decline this FY by 30%-40% as the funding squeeze delays clients’ major capex projects. This is actually much worse than we were expecting for the technical applications market as a whole. In our MarketViews report earlier this year, we forecast the UK market for technical applications would decline by just over 1% this year, less steeply than business applications (-3% to-4%) and office applications (-5%). Aveva is one of the larger players in the market (last year’s worldwide revenues were £128m) so this does not bode well. As we have said many times before, we generally have the most conservative forecasts in the marketplace and yet even we can be too optimistic!
