Logica contract update

(By Anthony Miller – Thursday, 2nd April 2009 8:00am). I spoke to Logica UK CEO Joe Hemming yesterday to get some more background on the NPIA contract (see Logica scores £76m deal with the Police). They certainly know how to step up to a challenge – Logica and its subcontractors have to create a unified Police National Database system starting with 65m existing records spread across some 270 diverse operational systems. No mean feat, especially with a target to roll out the first phase within a year. What I’m not clear about is actually how much of the £76m deal accrues to Logica as the prime contractor. With Northgate and SunGard sharing the application development, and C&W hosting the system, I would think a fair chunk will flow through to the subs.

I also learned that the NPIA contract is Logica’s second major deal this year along with last month’s managed workplace services win at Nordic telco TeliaSonera. No contract value was given at the time, but we suspect that the two deals are similar on an annualised basis.
