Public sector recruitment growing well for InterQuest

(By Anthony Miller – Thursday,5th March 2009 8:30am). InterWho? That was my reaction too. But AIM-listed InterQuest, like much larger ITSA (IT staff agency) peer, SThree, is better known by its operating brands, including Genesis, PeopleCo and Sand Resources. InterQuest was founded in 2001 by executive chairman Gary Ashworth, who previously founded recruitment group Abacus. Ashworth owns 42% of the business. InterQuest CEO is Ross Eades, who I knew back in his days running US ITSA Modis’ UK operations. Channel 4 chairman, Luke Johnson, owns 13% of the stock and sits on the boards as NED.

I’m meeting the team later this morning and will update you again then, but for the record, prelim results (see here) show revenues up 22% to £106m with gross margins down 30bps to 14.5% and operating margins down 10bos to 4.1%. Sands, its public sector brand, grew GP by 25% and now represents about a third of InterQuest’s business. Just so you get a sense of scale, SThree, the multibrand champion, recorded 2008 revenues of £632m with gross margins around 35% and operating margins just under 9%. I would imagine this is what InterQuest would like to be when it grows up! SThree updates the market on trading tomorrow.
