EMC victorious in battle for DDI

(By Philip Carnelley – Thursday 9th July 2009 8:00am). As was looking increasingly likely (see EMC closing in on DDI), EMC has won the battle to acquire Data Domain, the storage data de-duplication specialist. NetApp has withdrawn from the fight - indeed, we said it was always likely that the firm with the deeper pockets would win. This now leaves NetApp with a problem: it really needs data de-duplication technology to remain competitive. NetApp management will no doubt be rapidly running the sliderule over other technology providers to find another option – if it hadn’t already started.
