As we predicted (see BT blow for Phorm), BT’s decision to drop trials of the controversial Phorm Webwise product was sure to worry smaller players. Now Carphone Warehouse’s TalkTalk unit has followed suit. While BT denied that the privacy storm was the reason it has ceased looking at Phorm for now, it surely didn’t help. Phorm has many other markets to target other than the UK, and is actively doing so. But the EU has been involved in the controversy, asking the UK Government to investigate Webwise, surely making other EU countries’ involvement look doubtful. Phorm looks increasingly dependent on the outcome of its Webwise trial in South Korea – but even if successful, will this be enough?

Now TalkTalk drops Phorm
